Experience
A principal mechanical engineer with 14 years of well-balanced product design and development, and research and analysis experience with mechanical, electro-mechanical and structural systems; looking to bring my skillset to lead the creation of state-of-the-art Energy, Transportation and Robotics systems. Experienced with component and system- design, modeling, analysis and testing; knowledge creation and knowledge transfer.
Mechanical Engineer IV
Mechanical Engineer III (2015 - 2020)
July 2015 - present
SunPower Corporation, Richmond, CA
High-visibility position, working on products directly improving the revenue stream of the company. Involved with end to end product lifecycle; defined product and system requirements; developed business case. Responsible to take an idea from concept to reality and provided support to field crews for installation. Products were designed to improve the cost stack by at least 30%.
Lead structural design and mechanical design of products and components to provide cost-effective solutions. Performed advanced system modeling and static finite element analysis for structural and mechanical components using Abaqus. Products developed: Oasis 3.0 Tracker, Helix Carport V2, OneRoofTM, SunVault, Hub+.
Designed components for variety of manufacturing processes, qualification tools and gauges, and testing fixtures. Applied GD&T in drafting and performed statistical-analysis based tolerance stack-up analysis. Developed electro-mechanical controllers for accelerated lifetime testing. Collaborated with manufacturers to qualify high-volume tooling. Defined quality control plans, acceptable Ppk/Cpk and measurement frequencies. Participated in 8Ds and 5Ys. Performed DFMEAs, DFMs. Reviewed PFMEAs.
Trained contractors for installation of solar energy producing systems. Trained engineers for the design of solar energy producing structures.
Research performed in structural mechanics and solar energy performance analysis to provide novel design solutions.
Published white papers, research papers and patents for supporting structural engineering and analysis of products and systems.
Product Innovation and Creativity Center Fellow
Jan 2010 - May 2015
Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla), Rolla, MO
Managed and mentored 250 design teams and steered them towards a successful completion of the capstone senior design project
Defined and developed design projects with industry partners such as Faurecia XWorks, Boeing, Robert Bosch Tool Corporation, and Anheuser-Busch, to be executed by a team of mechanical engineering seniors. Organized course activities, coordinated with GTAs and faculty during the execution of projects. Projects included Component Design, System Design, and Product Design
Graduate Research Assistant
May 2011 - May 2015
Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla), Rolla, MO
Research performed in the area of compliant mechanism design. Created new mathematical models for the design and analysis of compliant segments and compliant mechanisms using the pseudo-rigid-body model (PRBM) concept that build on rigid-body synthesis and analysis techniques
Presented the concept of deflection-domain for compliant segments and compliant mechanisms. Provided a novel approach for determining the static-mode shapes of compliant mechanisms. Presented a stepwise approach for evaluating mechanical advantage of compliant mechanisms. Utilized analytical software like Matlab, Maple, and Mathcad to implement the approaches. Verified all results using ANSYS® and testing
Mentored four graduate students for their MS thesis and two graduate students for their PhD dissertation
